Environmental Laboratory: Bioaugmentation and Biopurification Treatment

  • Environmental expertise: Targeted decontamination through the selection of specific microorganisms.
  • Bioaugmentation treatment: Addition of specific strains to degrade recalcitrant pollutants.
  • R&D Funding: Research center providing access to regional aid (Brussels and Wallonia).

As a leading research and development laboratory, Meurice R&D develops biological solutions tailored to your environmental challenges by selecting the most relevant microorganisms and evaluating their impact on the pollution to be treated. We do not offer turnkey solutions, but rather bespoke support aimed at developing a specific response adapted to your problem.

Bioaugmentation: the biological solution for pollutant treatment

Bioaugmentation is a branch of bioremediation that aims to treat pollution by inoculating specific strains into the polluted medium. These strains can be indigenous and isolated in situ, or allochthonous and specifically selected for a particular metabolism that promotes pollution treatment.

Our laboratory provides you with its expertise and equipment at every stage of a bioaugmentation process:

  • Isolation and selection: Identification of the most suitable microorganisms for the situation and the pollution encountered (hydrocarbons, solvents, organic compounds, mineral compounds, etc.).
  • Biodegradation study: Laboratory evaluation of pollutant degradation kinetics under simulated real-world conditions and/or optimal conditions (nutrients, oxygenation, pH, BOD-COD).
  • Biomass production: Propagation and stabilization of selected strains for in-situ implementation through our fermentation expertise.

From the laboratory to the industrial site: our support and pilot equipment

Thanks to our expertise, we evaluate the most suitable microorganism or microbial consortium for your specific situation and the pollution encountered. Since every pollution case is unique, we offer to evaluate the effectiveness of the selected microorganisms through small and medium-scale trials. Finally, we also offer the production and stabilization of micro organisms within our pilot facilities (up to 200 L), to enable their use on-site.

Support and funding

Environmental innovation is a challenge supported by public authorities. As a recognized academic partner, Meurice R&D facilitates the funding of your R&D projects:

  • Brussels-Capital Region: Access to Innovation Vouchers (covering up to 75% of costs for SMEs).
  • Walloon Region: Use of Technological Vouchers (coverage starting from 50%).
  • Collaborative Projects: Preparation of applications for regional or European project calls.

Important note : Access to this aid is subject to your company’s eligibility criteria and the availability of regional budgets. If these mechanisms are not applicable, we develop your projects through direct subcontracting with a guarantee of confidentiality.

Why entrust your environmental projects to Meurice R&D?

  • Targeted and flexible scientific approach: No generic solutions, but bacterial strains specifically selected for your pollution.
  • Ecological transition: Sustainable processes using nature to repair industrial impacts.
